	<li>After India’s independence, the princely state of Tripura was merged with the Union of India on 15 October 1949.</li>
	<li>Tripura became a Union Territory on 1 July 1963 and a full-fledged state on 21 January 1972.</li>

	<li>The longest bridge of Tripura is constructed on River Manu at Kanchanbari.</li>
	<li>The Gumti dam which is built across the Gumti River near Dumbur in Tripura with a 30-meter height is a major dam of the state.</li>
	<li>Tripura presently has 332 check dams.</li>
	<li>Major Lakes of Tripura are Dumboor Lake, Amarsagar, Rudrasagar, Kamalasagar, Khowra, Kalyansagar, Jagannath Dighi, Mahadev Dighi.</li>
	<li>The State has a recorded forest area of 6,294 sq. km which is 60.02% of its geographical area.</li>
	<li>Total number of National Parks is two in Tripura namely Clouded Leopard National Park, Rajbari National Park.</li>
	<li>Total number of Wildlife Sanctuaries is four in Tripura namely Gumti Wildlife Sanctuary, Rowa Wildlife Sanctuary, Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary, Trishna Wildlife Sanctuary.</li>
	<li>Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary is situated 20 km to the south of Agartala town. This sanctuary is divided into five sections and it is famous for its spectacled monkeys.</li>

Agriculture forms a primary sector of the economy of Tripura. More than 75% of the state’s total population is dependent on agriculture. Rice is the major crop of the state that is cultivated in 91% of the cropped area. Pisciculture has made significant advances in the state. Tripura ranks second after Kerala in the production of natural rubber in the country. The industrial sector of Tripura continues to be highly underdeveloped. Brickfields and tea industry are the only two organised sectors available in the state. The economy of Tripura is characterised by the high rate of poverty, low capital formation, inadequate infrastructure facilities.

Tripura is a land full of traditional games and sports. Thwgmung is the traditional game of Tripura. Other traditional games of Tripura are Achugwi Phan, Sohlaimung, Bumanikotor, Dwkhwi Sotonmung, Phan Sohlaimung, Kaldong or Kadong, Longoi Chokmung, Muphuk Sagwnang, Musta Seklaio etc.
