Germany is known as "Federal Republic of Germany". Germany is a Western European country with a landscape of forests, rivers, mountain ranges and North Sea beaches. <h2 id="content-id-56742-0">History of Germany</h2>

Germanic peoples occupied much of the present-day territory of Germany in ancient times. The Germanic peoples are those who spoke one of the Germanic languages, and they thus originated as a group with the so-called first sound shift (Grimm’s law), which turned a Proto-Indo-European dialect into a new Proto-Germanic language within the Indo-European language family. The political views of Adolf Hitler, dictator of Germany from 1933 to 1945, have presented historians and biographers with some difficulty. His writings and methods were often adapted to need and circumstance, although there were some steady themes, including antisemitism, anti-communism, anti-parliamentarianism, German Lebensraum.

<h3>Ancient and Medieval Period:</h3>

In the meantime the Germanic world was being transformed. For the balance of power in Europe, the most important development was the rise of larger and more cohesive Germanic political units, at least among the Germanic peoples living on the borders of the empire. This was largely a response to the military threat from Rome.

In some ways, German history is actually very young. There is a history of the area that corresponds roughly to the territory of Germany today, and a history of the area in which German is spoken. Some sense – though not a particularly pronounced one – of what it means to be German did evolve in the Middle Ages, yet the German Reich remained a collection of just a few large and many small principalities that were politically independent, at least theoretically – in 1650 there were around 360 of them.

<h3>Colonial Period:</h3>

The German Empire held numerous colonies from 1884 until the end of World War One. These included territories in modern day Tanzania, Burundi, Rwanda, Namibia, Cameroon, Togo and Ghana. The German colonial empire encompassed parts of several African countries, including parts of present-day Burundi, Rwanda, Tanzania, Namibia, Cameroon, Gabon, Congo, Central African Republic, Chad, Nigeria, Togo, Ghana, as well as northeastern New Guinea, Samoa and numerous Micronesian islands.

<h3>Independence and Beyond:</h3>

German invasions in the First and Second World Wars, Soviet leader Joseph Stalin preferred that a defeated Germany be dismembered and divided so that it could not rise to its former strength to threaten European peace and security again. On 23 May 1949, the Federal Republic of Germany was established on the territory of the Western occupied zones, with Bonn as its "provisional" capital.

	<li>1934 - Hitler proclaims the Third Reich.</li>
	<li>1939 - Invasion of Poland triggers World War II.</li>
	<li>1945 - Germany defeated, Hitler commits suicide. Allies divide Germany into occupation zones.</li>
	<li>1949 - Germany is divided. The US, French and British zones in the west become the Federal Republic of Germany</li>
	<li>1950- Start of rapid economic growth in West Germany.</li>
	<li>1973 - East and West Germany join the UN.</li>
	<li>1974 - Brandt resigns after spy revelations surrounding one of his aides. </li>
	<li>1990 - East Germans elect pro-unification parliament, state merged into Federal Republic.</li>

<h2 id="content-id-56742-2">Geographical Aspects of Germany</h2>

Germany's central and southern regions have forested hills and mountains cut through by the Danube, Main, and Rhine river valleys. In the north, the landscape flattens out to a wide plain that stretches to the North Sea. Between these extremes, Germany is a country of incredible variety. Germany's four geographic regions are the Northern German Lowlands, Central German Uplands, Southern Germany, and the Alpine Foreland and Alps. The Northern German Lowlands are characterized by low elevation and wetlands near the coast with the North Sea.

<h3>Demographical Aspects:</h3>

Germany has been divided regionally and for administrative purposes into 16 Länder (including three city states), 19 administrative regions, 400 districts comprising 106 municipalities with the status of a district and 294 rural districts and 10,789 municipalities. In line with the majority of western industrial nations, Germany has a low birth rate and a correspondingly small number of children. The decisive decline in the birth rate took place between the mid-sixties and the mid-seventies.

<h3>Soil and Vegetation:</h3>

German forests are diverse and provide habitats for many animal and plant species. The spruce, pine, beech and oak are the most frequent tree species in Germany. Deciduous trees, mixed forests and the structure of the crown canopy have increased in size. They range from black to extremely fertile brown soil types, and most of them are arable land under cultivation. The till (ground moraine) of the North German Plain and Alpine Foreland has heavy but fertile soil.

<h3>Climate and Weather:</h3>

Germany's climate is temperate and marine in the west and humid continental in the east. It has cool winters in the west and cold winters in the east. It has moderate rainfall year-round and is mostly overcast from November to February. Summers are warm, more so in the south. The country has a cool or temperate climatic zone with humid westerly winds. In general, summers are warm, winters are cold, and the shoulder seasons of spring and fall often have the best weather. Germany is a democratic and federal parliamentary republic, where federal legislative power is vested in the Bundestag and the Bundesrat. Adolf Hitler was German politician who was the dictator of Germany from 1933 until his suicide in 1945. During his dictatorship, he initiated World War II in Europe by invading Poland on 1 September 1939. He was closely involved in military operations throughout the war and was central to the perpetration of the Holocaust, the genocide of about six million Jews and millions of other victims.

	<li>Legislature: The Bundesrat ("Federal Council") was the highest legislative body in the German Empire. Its members were appointed by the governments of Germany's constituent states to represent their interests in the German parliament. The popularly elected Reichstag was the lower house.</li>
	<li>Judiciary: The judiciary of Germany is the system of courts that interprets and applies the law in Germany. The German legal system is a civil law mostly based on a comprehensive compendium of statutes, as compared to the common law systems.</li>
	<li>Executive: The Bundeskanzler (federal chancellor) heads the Bundesregierung (federal government) and thus the executive branch of the federal government. They are elected by and responsible to the Bundestag, Germany's parliament. </li>

The chancellor of Germany, officially the federal chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, is the head of the federal government of Germany, and the commander in chief of the German Armed Forces during wartime. The government is elected by the people in elections where everyone has an equal vote. The constitution is called the Grundgesetz.

Germany is known for its long and rich history, one that has put it at the forefront of European thought, politics, and art for over 1,000 years. This history has shaped a culture that combines predominantly Christian values with literature, art, philosophy, logic, reason, and, of course, a love of beer and sausages.

<h3>Language:</h3>

German is a West Germanic language mainly spoken in Western and Central Europe. It is the most widely spoken and official or co-official language in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, and the Italian province of South Tyrol.

<h3>Cuisine:</h3>

Sauerbraten is regarded as one Germany's national dishes and there are several regional variations in Franconia, Thuringia, Rhineland, Saarland, Silesia and Swabia.

<h3>Festivals:</h3>

Festivals are a year-round way of life in Germany. The people don't even take time out for winter months. There are outdoor markets at Christmas time, and they only have to set up a ladder once after Christmas, using it both to take down the greenery and hang the colored streamers for the Carnival season.

<h3>Performing Art:</h3>

The Czech Republic is one of the best countries to study acting because of the excellent programs offered at the Academy for Performing Arts in Prague and the Arts and Design Institute.

<h3>Sporting Culture:</h3>

The Germany national team after winning the FIFA World Cup for the fourth time in 2014. The national sport of Germany is soccer.

The Arts and Crafts movement was an international trend in the decorative and fine arts that developed earliest and most fully in the British Isles and subsequently spread across the British Empire and to the rest of Europe and America.

Most are industrious, thrifty, and organized. Many Germans like to discuss politics, sports, culture, philosophy, or the environment. Deep and wide-ranging intellectual conversations are generally preferred over small talk.

<h3>Multiculturalism:</h3>

Germany is a culturally diverse society. This is a fact that we should finally accept instead of constantly questioning it. In the USA, the concept of social affiliation was thought much more innovatively from the beginning than it was here.

<h3>Indigenous Heritage:</h3>

Four officially recognized national minorities live in Germany: the Danes, the Frisians, the German Sinti and Roma, and the Sorbs. They receive special protection and specific funding from the federal and state governments.
