In today's geography section, we will talk about Mountains. Mountain is defined as the natural elevation that rises in the form of a peak. They are formed through tectonic forces or volcanism. They have an altitude greater than that of a hill, usually greater than 2,000 feet (610 meters).

Important Mountain Ranges of the World:

The Himalayan Mountain Range: It is located in Asia, separating the plains of the Indian subcontinent from the Tibetan Plateau. Metallic minerals like Cobalt, Nickel, Zinc, Copper etc are found here. Highest Peaks: Mount Everest (8,848 m).

The Alps Mountain Range: It is the highest and most extensive mountain range system in Europe. Highest Peak: Mont Blanc (4,808.73 m).

The Atlas Mountains Range - It separates the Mediterranean and Atlantic coastlines from the Sahara Desert. It stretches around 2,500 km through Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia. Highest Peak: Toubkal (4,167 m).

The Andes Mountain Range - It is the longest continental mountain range in the world, stretching approximately 7,000 km. It is formed along the western edge of South America. Highest Peak: Aconcagua (6,961m).

The Rockies Mountain Range - It is situated in western North America. It stretches more than 3,000 miles from British Columbia to New Mexico & the United States.

Important Mountains of India:

Mountain ranges in India are the Himalayas, Aravalli, Eastern Ghats, Nilgiri, Shivalik, Vindhya, and Satpura mountain ranges.

	<li>Kanchenjunga-Sikkim: It is the third highest mountain in the world. It lies between Nepal and India whereas the highest peak lies in India i.e. 8586m.</li>
	<li>Nanda Devi- Chamoli: It is the second highest mountain located in India. It is located in Chamoli, Uttrakhand. It is on the 23rd position in the world. It has one of the steepest peaks in the world. The height of this mountain is 7816m (25643ft).</li>
	<li>Kamet: It is the 3rd highest mountain range in India located in Chamoli, Uttarakhand. It is a giant pyramid with a flat summit area. It is the second-highest in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand. Its height is 7756m (25446 ft).</li>
