Earlier we talk about computer, its features and functions. In this blog, we will study about types of computer. Let's start. 

Computers are mainly categorised in following ways:

<ol>
	<li>Based on size</li>
	<li>Based on purpose</li>
	<li>Based on data handling capacities</li>
</ol>

<h2 id="content-id-1839-0">Based on size:</h2>

There are five different types of computers based on size:

<ol>
	<li>Supercomputer: Supercomputers are the biggest computers. Supercomputers are the most expensive and fastest machines. In comparison to all other computers, supercomputers are the most powerful, and most memory-rich. These are designed to process huge amounts of information such as billions of operations or data in a single second. They process information much faster than other computers. The reason for this is that supercomputers have huge numbers of connected processors. It mostly has uses in engineering and science, including forecasting the weather, nuclear energy research, and scientific simulations. Roger Cray created it for the first time in 1976.</li>
	<li>Mainframe computer: Mainframe computers are also expensive and costly computers. These are made to support hundreds or thousands of users simultaneously. Additionally, it supports running many apps at once. It performs excellently and has a lot of storage capacity. They also can run several processes at once. With all of these capabilities, the mainframe computer is perfect for large businesses that process a lot of data, like in the banking and telecom industries. It has a long life and operates nicely for a very long time.</li>
	<li>Minicomputer: A minicomputer is a medium size and multiprocessing computer. It is bigger than a microcomputer but smaller than a mainframe computer. This kind of computer has two or more CPUs and can support up to 200 users simultaneously. Minicomputers are utilized in places like institutions or departments for various tasks including billing, accounting, stock management, etc.</li>
	<li>Microcomputer: These computers, sometimes known as portable computers, are the least powerful but the most popular. The system unit, input/output unit, and memory unit are the three main kinds of physical components that make up a microcomputer. This type of computer is appropriate for personal tasks like creating assignments, watching movies, or using at the office for tasks like office work, etc. Desktop and laptop computers are two examples.</li>
	<li>Workstation: A workstation is a device made for technical or scientific purposes. A fast microprocessor, lots of RAM, and a fast graphic adaptor make this device. It is a computer with only one user. Usually, it was very accurate at carrying out a specific task.</li>
</ol>

<h2 id="content-id-1839-1">Based on Purpose:</h2>

There are two different types of computers based on purpose:

<ol>
	<li>General purpose computer: General-purpose computers are those that can solve a wide range of issues by modifying the programming or instructions. for example, to make calculations, accounting, and a small database.</li>
	<li>Special purpose computer: special purpose computer is created specifically to meet the needs of a specific task or application, like aircraft control system. It includes the necessary instructions into the internal storage design so that it can carry out the work at hand with just a single command. As a result, it is less expensive and avoids useless choices.</li>
</ol>

<h2 id="content-id-1839-2">Based on Data handling capacities:</h2>

There are three different types of computers based on data handling capacities:

<ol>
	<li>Analogue computer: It is specifically designed to deal with analogue data. Analog data is continuously changing information that is not capable of having distinct values. Therefore, an analogue computer is used in situations when we need approximate values for things like speed, temperature, and pressure. It doesn’t need to translate the data into numbers and codes before it can be accepted directly from the measurement equipment. It monitors the continuous changes in physical quantity. It produces a reading on a dial or meter as output. For example, a thermometer that uses mercury, speedometer, etc.</li>
	<li>Digital computer: Digital computers are designed in a way that makes it simple for them to carry out arithmetic and logical processes quickly. It uses stored programmes in its memory to process raw data as an input and generate the desired output. The computer converts the raw input data to 0 and 1 because it can only understand binary input of 0 and 1, after which it processes the data to produce the output or result. Digital computers include all current laptops, desktops, and smartphones. They are frequently utilized in the fields of engineering and technology, design, research, and data processing to solve complicated issues.</li>
	<li>Hybrid computer: Hybrid computers have the features of both analogue and digital computers. Hybrid computers have accuracy and memory like a digital computer, and fast like analogue computers. It can therefore process data that is continuous as well as data that is discrete. When it accepts analogue signals as input for operation, it converts them into digital form before processing the data received. As a result, it is frequently used in special applications where the processing of analogue and digital data is necessary. A hybrid computer is an example of a processor used in gas pumps that transforms measurements of fuel flow into quantity and pricing.</li>
</ol>
