The world’s first CAT or CT brain scan was performed at Atkinson Morley Hospital, Wimbledon, UK. Hailed as the biggest medical breakthrough since the stethoscope and the discovery of x-rays, the brain scan was performed by Sir Godfrey Hounsfield and Dr Jamie Ambrose. CT scanning was a revolutionary technology that dramatically improved patient safety by providing a non-invasive method to diagnose illness.

Sir Subbier Subramania Iyer was an Indian lawyer, jurist and freedom fighter who, along with Annie Besant, founded the Home Rule Movement. He was popularly known as the “Grand Old Man of South India”. Subramania Iyer was born in the Madurai district of Madras Presidency.

October 2 is marked as the International Day of Non-Violence every year by the United Nations. Mahatma Gandhi gave the world the philosophy of non-violence or Ahimsa. It was Mahatma Gandhi’s firm belief that only a nonviolent movement can achieve the highest objective of freedom.

Lal Bahadur Shastri was an Indian statesman who served as the second Prime Minister of India. Its radio signal was easily detectable by radio amateurs and the 65° orbital inclination and duration of its orbit made its flight path cover virtually the entire inhabited Earth.

Rout was a boat boy. He was shot by British police when he refused to ferry them across the Brahmani River on the night of 11 October 1938 at Nilakanthapur Ghat, Bhuban, Dhenkanal district.

Dhanpat Rai Srivastava, better known by his pen name Premchand, was an Indian writer famous for his modern Hindustani literature. He is one of the most celebrated writers of the Indian subcontinent, and is regarded as one of the foremost Hindi writers of the early twentieth century.
