You have to determine which statement(s) is/are sufficient/necessary to answer the questions.
<h2 id="content-id-7983416502-4"><b>Question On Data Sufficiency </b></h2>Two trains, Train A and Train B, start simultaneously from stations P and Q, respectively, towards each other. What is the length of Train B?

Statement I: Train A, traveling at a speed of 72 km/h, crosses a vertical pole in 15 seconds. The ratio of the speeds of Train A and Train B is 4 : 5.

Statement II: Both trains cross each other completely in 12 seconds while moving in opposite directions.

</li></ol> <h2 id="content-id-0321847965-6"><b> Data Sufficiency Questions Solution</b></h2><p>The correct answer is <strong>option 3</strong> i.e. <strong>Both Statement I and Statement II together are necessary to answer the question.</strong></p>

<p><strong>From Statement I:</strong></p>

<p>Speed of Train A = 72 km/h = 20 m/s</p>

<p>Train A crosses a pole in 15 sec</p>

<p>Length of Train A = 20 × 15 = 300 m</p>

<p>Speed ratio of A : B = 4 : 5</p>

<p>Speed of Train B = (5/4) × 72 = 90 km/h</p>

<p>But length of Train B cannot be found.</p>

<p>So, Statement I alone is not sufficient.</p>

<p><strong>From Statement II:</strong></p>

<p>Both trains cross each other in 12 sec.</p>

<p>But no speed or length is given.</p>

<p>So, Statement II alone is not sufficient.</p>

<p><strong>Using both statements together:</strong></p>

<p>Relative speed = 72 + 90 = 162 × 5/18 = 45 m/s</p>

<p>Total length of both trains</p>

<p>= 45 × 12</p>

<p>= 540 m</p>

<p>Length of Train A = 300 m</p>

<p>Length of Train B = 540 − 300 = 240 m</p>

<p>Hence, Length of Train B can be determined.</p>

<p>Therefore, both statements together are sufficient.</p>
