The river flows at a constant speed of 4 km/hr from Point A to Point B. Two identical motorboats, X and Y, start moving at the same time—Boat X from Point A downstream and Boat Y from Point B upstream. The initial speed of both boats in still water is identical and equal to 16 km/hr.

When the two boats cross each other mid-stream, they instantly exchange a heavy cargo box. Due to this exchange, the still-water speed of the downstream boat (X) decreases by 25%, and the still-water speed of the upstream boat (Y) increases by 25%. Both boats then continue their journeys without any stopping time.

The difference between the total time taken by Boat Y to reach Point A and the total time taken by Boat X to reach Point B is (m − 0.5) hours.
