Train B also starts from Jammu at the same time and, after traveling 120 km, reduces its speed by 25% and reaches Kashmir at 9:30 PM. If both trains had traveled the entire journey at their respective original speeds, they would have reached Kashmir at 8:30 PM. A third train, Train C, travels at a constant speed that is 150% greater than the original speed of Train B.

Statement I: The original speeds of Train A and Train B are identical, and the numerical value of the total distance between Jammu and Kashmir is exactly six times the numerical value of this original speed.

Statement II: If Train A had reduced its speed by 50% right from the beginning of the journey, its total travel time would have increased by 4 hours compared to its actual journey time.

<p>Extra time due to reduction in speed = 4 hours</p>

<p>80/a + (D - 80)/(a/2) - D/a = 4</p>

<p>80/a + 2(D - 80)/a - D/a = 4</p>

<p>(D - 80)/a = 4</p>

<p>D = 4a + 80 ...(1)</p>

<p>For Train B</p>

<p>After 120 km, speed becomes 75% of original speed.</p>

<p>Extra time due to reduction in speed = 1 hour</p>

<p>120/b + (D - 120)/(3b/4) - D/b = 1</p>

<p>120/b + 4(D - 120)/(3b) - D/b = 1</p>

<p>(D - 120)/(3b) = 1</p>

<p>D = 3b + 120 ...(2)</p>

<p>Since both trains would have arrived at 8:30 PM when running at original speeds and they started at 2:30 PM,</p>

<p>Normal travel time = 6 hours</p>

<p>Therefore,</p>

<p>D/a = 6</p>

<p>D = 6a ...(3)</p>

<p>D/b = 6</p>

<p>D = 6b ...(4)</p>

<p>From (1) and (3):</p>

<p>6a = 4a + 80</p>

<p>2a = 80</p>

<p>a = 40 km/hr</p>

<p>D = 6 × 40 = 240 km</p>

<p>From (2):</p>

<p>240 = 3b + 120</p>

<p>b = 40 km/hr</p>

<p>Thus,</p>
