It has been solved and explained by KD Live Experts under the guidance of Neetu Mam and they have tried to elaborate the concept used in Data Sufficiency Questions.</p><h2 id="content-id-0761283945-3"><b>Question On Data Sufficiency </b></h2>Rahul had to travel a certain distance from Point A to Point D with his usual speed of (y + 10) km/h, which takes a total of 'T' hours under normal conditions. However, on a particular day, he decided to split his journey into two different parts. He covered the first part of the distance with a reduced speed equal to 4/5th of his usual speed, and the remaining part of the distance with an even lower speed equal to 2/3rd of his usual speed. Due to these speed reductions across both segments of the trip, the overall average speed of Rahul for the entire journey dropped significantly, and he ended up taking 3 hours more than his usual time 'T' to complete the whole distance.

Find the total time taken by Rahul to cover a new distance of 360 km if he travels continuously at a modified speed of (3y - 40) km/h.
Statement I: If Rahul had traveled the first part of the distance and the remaining part of the distance in the ratio of 1 : 3 respectively, his total travel distance from Point A to Point D would be exactly equal to 320 km.

Statement II: The numerical value of the distance covered by Rahul at the slower speed of 2/3rd of his usual speed is exactly 240 km, which represents 75% of the total distance between Point A and Point D.

<p>Let total distance = D</p>

<p>Distance covered at 4/5 speed = xD</p>

<p>Distance covered at 2/3 speed = (1 - x)D</p>

<p>Normal speed = (y + 10)</p>

<p>Given,</p>

<p>Substitute D = T(y + 10)</p>

<p>So,</p>

\)</span></p>

<p>5xT + 6T - 6xT = 4T + 12</p>

<p>T(2 - x) = 12 ...(1)</p>

<p>Time for 360 km at speed (3y - 40)</p>

<p>So we need y.</p>

<p>Hence, we need T and D because</p>

<p>y + 10 = D/T</p>

<p>⇒ y = D/T - 10</p>

<p><strong>Statement I</strong></p>

<p>Distance ratio = 1 : 3</p>

<p>⇒ x = 1/4</p>

<p>From (1),</p>

<p>T(2 - 1/4) = 12</p>

<p>7T/4 = 12</p>

<p>T = 48/7 hours</p>

<p>Given D = 320 km</p>

<p>y + 10 = 320 ÷ (48/7)</p>

<p>= 140/3</p>

<p>y = 110/3</p>

<p>3y - 40 = 70</p>

<p>Required time = 360/70 = 36/7 hours</p>

<p>Statement I alone is sufficient.</p>

<p>Statement II</p>

<p>Distance at 2/3 speed = 240 km</p>

<p>It is 75% of total distance.</p>

<p>So,</p>

<p>(1 - x)D = 240</p>

<p>and</p>

<p>240 = 75% of D</p>

<p>D = 320 km</p>

<p>x = 1/4</p>

<p>Using (1),</p>

<p>T = 48/7 hours</p>

<p>Then,</p>

<p>y + 10 = 320 ÷ (48/7) = 140/3</p>

<p>y = 110/3</p>

<p>3y - 40 = 70</p>

<p>Required time = 360/70</p>

<p>= 36/7 hours</p>

<p>Statement II alone is sufficient.</p>

<p>Therefore, either statement alone is sufficient.</p>
