After that, he invested an amount of â&#130;¹(2K + 180) in another scheme at 10% per annum, compounded semi-annually, for 1 year. If the total amount received at the end of the year from the second scheme was â&#130;¹2205, then find the amount invested in the first scheme.

<p>Half-year rate = 10/2 = 5%</p>

<p>Time = 1 year ⇒ 2 periods</p>

<p>Amount = P × (105/100)<sup>2</sup> = P × 441/400</p>

<p>Given amount = 2205</p>

<p>P × 441/400 = 2205</p>

<p>P = 2205 × 400 / 441 = 5 × 400 = 2000</p>

<p>So,</p>

<p>2K + 180 = 2000</p>

<p>2K = 1820</p>

<p>K = 910</p>

<p>First scheme:</p>

<p>CI for 3 years at 20%</p>

<p>Amount = P × (6/5)<sup>3</sup> = P × 216/125</p>

<p>Interest K = Amount – P = P × (216/125 − 1) = P × 91/125</p>

<p>K = 910</p>

<p>P × 91/125 = 910</p>

<p>P = 910 × 125 / 91 = 10 × 125 = 1250</p>
