<p>Telecommunication is communication through a wire, radio, or other electromagnetic systems. We cannot communicate with others over a distance, without the use of technology.</p>

<h3><strong>Beginning of this day- </strong></h3>

<p>It began in the year 1969. On this day marks ITU was founded. The signing of the first International Telegraph Convention in 1865 (Paris) also happened on this day.</p>

<p>Along with it, we also celebrate Information Society Day on 17th May.</p>

<p>The International Telecommunications Union is important in the field of communication. There are several traditional means of sending a message. However, the internet tops the list because of its convenience and connectivity.   </p>

<h3><strong>Objectives of celebrating it-</strong></h3>

<ul>
	<li>We celebrate this day in order to spread awareness about internet usage worldwide.</li>
	<li>It also acknowledges ICT’s  (Information and Communications Technologies) efforts for economic development, social and political growth. </li>
	<li>To help increase the awareness of the possibilities that technology brings. </li>
	<li>To applaud the Telecommunication engineers for their invention of the radio, television, wireless communication satellites, etc. </li>
</ul>

<h3><strong>Theme for this day-</strong></h3>

<p>The first theme that was chosen in the year 1969 was <strong>‘The ITU’: Get to know that ITU</strong>. </p>

<p>The theme for the year 2023 is<strong> ‘Empowering the least developed countries through information and communication technologies.’</strong></p>
