<p>Duma Boko from the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) has replaced Botswana Democratic Party’s (BDP) Mokgweetsi Masisi to become the sixth President of Botswana. The result of the elections was announced by Chief Justice Terence Rannowane. Elections in Botswana are held to choose 61 members for the National Assembly and 609 local councillors. </p>

<p>The National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) was recently presented by India at the UN conference on Biodiversity in Cali, Colombia. The plan aligns with Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. The NBSAP aims to address challenges like water crisis, food insecurity, unsustainable livelihoods, pollution etc. The primary goal under the plan will be to restore at least 30% of degraded ecosystems.</p>

<p>The First Asian Buddhist Summit organised by the Ministry of Culture and International Buddhist Confederation is taking place in New Delhi. The summit aligns with India's Act East policy and aims to unite Sangha leaders, Scholars, Experts and practitioners from different Buddhist traditions. </p>

<p>As per the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), October 2024 was reported as the hottest October for India since 1901 while Delhi recorded its warmest October since 1951 with no rainfall. One of the major factors responsible for these high temperatures is Global Warming. The IMD reported unprecedented mean and minimum temperature. </p>

<p>The Thadou Tribe rejected the Kuki Label at the Thadaou Convention 2024 that took place in Guwahati. The Thadou Tribe are a distinct ethnic group with their own language, culture and history. They were recorded as a separate tribe since the first census of India in 1881. The Convention called for the removal of the Any Kuki Tribe Designation from the ST list in Manipur. </p>

<p>The Tamil Nadu Government has recently declared Heatwave as a State Disaster aiming to provide relief for those affected by extreme Heat. The move includes financial aid to families of heat-related fatalities and measures to manage heat impacts. The funding for the initiative will come from the State Disaster Response Fund. A heat wave is defined as a period of unusually hot weather with high humidity. </p>
