Q:1 The correct answer is option 1 i.e. 10%

Let the number be x. 

A/Q, {x × (100 - 20)}/100 = 228

x × 80/100 = 228

x = (228×100)/80

x = 285

Percentage increase = {(final value - intial value) × 100}/intial value = {(313.5 - 285)×100}/285 = 10%

So, percentage increase = 10%

 

Q:2 The correct answer is option 3 i.e. 16(2/3)%.

Expenditure = cost price × quantity bought

The price of sugar increases to 20%.

Let the initial cost of 100 kg is Rs 100

After increasing the price,

100(100 + 20)/100 = 120

The x kg sugar is bought in Rs 120.

Expenditure will be the same before and after increasing the price,

100 × 100 = 120 × x

x = 500/6

Decrease in quantity = 100 - 500/6 = 100/6

Percent Decrease of quantity = {(100/6)×100}/100 = 100/6 = 50/3%.

 

Q:3 The correct answer is option 2 i.e. 8% decrease.

Let the price of an article = 100 rupees

price after 20% decreasing = 100(100 - 20)/100 = 80

and the price after 15% increasing

= 80 (100 + 15)/100 = 92

So, The final price = Rs 92

Final price < Initial price

So, The decrease in price = (100 - 92)×100/100 = 8%.

 

Q:4 The correct answer is option 1 i.e. 1/16.

Let one cake be considered 1 unit

Share of Ram from first cake = 37.5/100 = 3/8

Share of Ram from second cake = 56.25/100 = 9/16

Total units of cake Ram has = 3/8 + 9/16 = 15/16

Total units of cake Shyam has = 1

Difference in the amount of cake Shyam and Ram have = 1 – 15/16 = 1/16

(Difference in the amount of cake Shyam and Ram have)/(Weight of one cake) = (1/16)/1

⇒ 1/16

 

Q:5 The correct answer is Option 3 i.e. 55%.

Let the old consumption and price be x and Rs y respectively

Old expenditure = Consumption × Price = xy

New consumption = (100 + 25)/100 × x = 1.25x

New prices = (100 + 24)/100 × y = 1.24y

New expenditure = 1.25x × 1.24y

⇒ 1.55xy

Percentage increase in expenditure = (1.55xy – xy)/(xy) × 100 = 55%

 

Q:6 The correct answer is option 2 i.e. 18.

Let the number of wrong answers be x

Right answer = x + 50% of x = x + (50/100)x = (3/2)x

According to question,

⇒ x + (3/2)x = 30

⇒ (5/2)x = 30

⇒ 5x = 60

⇒ x = 12

She correctly answers = (3/2)x = (3/2)12 = 18

 

Q:7 The correct answer is option 1 i.e. Rs 1960.

Let, Shubham income be x.

His saving = 100% - (23 + 33 + 19 + 16)% = 100% - 91% = 9%

Also, his savings = Rs 504 

So, 9% of his income = Rs 504

⇒ (9/100)x = 504

⇒ x = (504/9)100 = Rs 5600

Now, Amount spent on education and grocery = (19% + 16%) of his income.

= 35% of 5600 = (35/100) × 5600 = 1960

Hence, the total amount did he spend on education and grocery together is Rs 1960.

Q:8 The correct answer is option 3 i.e 40%.

The total number of items he bought = 6 + 12 + 12 = 30

Required percent = (12 × 100)/30 = 40%

 

Q:9 The correct answer is Option 4 i.e. 36.

Let the number be 'X'

The difference between 47% and 37% of the number is equal to (47 - 37)% = 10% of X

Thus, 10% of X = 21.6

⇒ X = 216

So, 16.67% = (1/6) × 216 = 36

 

Q:10 The correct answer is Option 4 i.e. 70%.

Let the fixed part be x and the variable part be y

Total salary = x + y

Variable salary after first increment = (100 + 50) % of y = 1.5y

Variable salary after second increment = (100 + 33.33) % of 1.5y = (4/3) × 1.5y = 2y

Total salary after two increments = x + 2y

The new salary is 30% more than the previous salary,

⇒ (100 + 30)% of (x + y) = x + 2y

⇒ 1.3x + 1.3y = x + 2y

⇒ 0.3x = 0.7y

⇒ x/y = 7/3

Let x be 7 units and y be 3 units

Total salary = x + y = 10 units

Percentage of constant salary = (7/10) × 100 = 70%
