However, after testing he mixed these 150 litres of sanitizer with 500 litre of sanitizer which had 60% alcohol content. What is the final alcohol content in the mixed sanitizer?

Q:9 ‘x’ liter of oil is mixed with 25 liters of kerosene to form a mixture. In this mixture 20 liters of oil and ‘y’ liters of petrol is also added. Now, ratio of oil to kerosene to petrol in the final mixture becomes 7 : 5 : 2, then what is the value of ‘x + y’?

Q:1 The correct answer is option 2 i.e. 1 : 2

Let the mixtures be A and B respectively, then by the concept of alligation,

Hence the ratio in which A and B are mixed = 7 : 14 = 1 : 2.

 

Q:2 The correct answer is option 4 i.e. 320 litres

Given

The mixture contains 20% of water

According to the question

(4x - 20)/(x - 5 + 25) = 3/1

(4x - 20)/(x + 20) = 3/1

4x - 20 = 3x + 60

x = 80

Ratio of milk and water = 80% : 20% = 4 : 1

Let the ratio of milk and water be 4x : x

∴ The initial quantity of milk = 4x = 320 litres

 

Q:3 The correct answer is option 4 i.e. 3 : 2, 5, 11 : 4 . 

By checking options in option 4

Given the ratio of A and B is 3 : 2

Hence A = 9 litres, B = 6 litres

Now since 5 liters of mixture is taken out hence 3 liters of A and 2 liters of B will be removed

Hence A remaining = 6 litres

B remaining = 4 litres

Again 5 Liters of A is added so A = 11 litres

B = 4 litres

Hence new ratio = 11 : 4

Q:4 The correct answer is option 3 i.e. 7 litres

If a quantity 'N' is divided in the ratio a : b, then the individual parts will be 

[a/(a + b)] × N and [b/(a + b)] × N

Quantity of milk in the actual solution = [5/(5 + 4)] × 18 = (5/9) × 18 = 10 litres

Quantity of water in the actual solution ⇒ [4/(5 + 4)] × 18 ⇒ (4/9) × 18 ⇒ 8 litres

Let ‘a’ litres of water be added to this mixture so that the resultant ratio of milk and water is 2 : 3

[10/(8 + a)] = 2/3

(10 × 3) = 2 × (8 + a)

15 = 8 + a

a = 15 - 8

a = 7 litres

 

Q:5 The correct answer is option 2 i.e. 2/9.

Let the initial quantity of the mixture is T and let the quantity of mixture that was taken out is x,

Now by applying alligation method

⇒ (9/16 – 7/16) ÷ (7/16 – 0 = x/T - x)

⇒ X/T = 2/9

 

Q:6 The correct answer is Option 4 i.e. 8 : 55 : 25.

Quantity of milk from A = (2/5) × (3/5) × 20 = 4.8

Quantity of soda from B = (4/5) × (2/6) × 30 = 8

Quantity of soda from C = (5/8) × (8/11) × 55 = 25

Quantity of rasna from C = (3/8) × (8/11) × 55 = 15

So ratio of milk : soda : rasna = 4.8 : 8 + 25 : 15 = 4.8 : 33 : 15 = 8 : 55 : 25

 

Q:7 The correct answer is Option 1 i.e. 30 L.

Let the quantity of milk and water in the initial mixture be 10x and 5x

⇒ 10x ÷ (5x + 20) = 6 ÷ 9

⇒ 90x = 30x + 120

⇒ x = 2

Quantity of water in the initial mixture = 5 × 2 = 10 L

Quantity of water in the new mixture = 10 + 20 = 30 L

 

Q:8 The correct answer is option 4 i.e. 64.6%

In first 150 litre, alcohol content is 80%

i.e. 80/100 × 150 = 120 litre

In next 500 litre, alcohol content is 60%

i.e. 60/100 × 500 = 300 litre

Hence total alcohol = 120 + 300 = 420 litre

Total Mixture = 150 + 500 = 650

Final alcohol content = 420/650 × 100 = 64.6%

 

Q:9 The correct answer is option 4 i.e. 25.

The Total amount of Oil in the final mixture = (x + 20)

The total amount of Kerosene in the final mixture = 25

The total amount of Petrol in final mixture = y

According to the question:

⇒ (x + 20) : 25 : y = 7 : 5 : 2

⇒ (x + 20) : 25 = 7 : 5

⇒ 5x + 100 = 175

⇒ x = 15

⇒ 25 : y = 5 : 2

⇒ 50 = 5y

⇒ y = 10

Now, value of ‘x + y’ = (15 + 10) = 25

 

Q:10 The correct answer is option 5 i.e. 25 : 11 : 9.

Amount of remaining Kerosene in the mixture = 144[1 – (24/144)]2

= 144 × (5/6)2

= 100 liters

Amount of Petrol in the mixture = 144 – 100 = 44 liters

Amount of Diesel in the mixture = 36 liters

Required ratio = 100 : 44 : 36 = 25 : 11 : 9
