What is organic chemistry?

Organic chemistry is a branch of chemistry that studies the structure, properties and reactions of organic compounds, which contain carbon-carbon covalent bonds.

What do you means by Catenation?

It is the tendency of self-combination and is maximum in carbon. A carbon atom can combine with other carbon atoms by single, double or triple bonds. Thus, it forms more compounds than the others.

Name the classification of carbon atom based on Position of Functional Group.

On the Basis of Position of Functional Group:

  • α-carbon: Carbon which is directly attached to the functional group.
  • β-carbon: Carbon which is directly attached to the α- carbon.

Is COOH a functional group?

Yes, COOH is a functional group. 

Give example of Homologous Series?

Example: Homologue of ethyne is C3H4
