Olympics is the prominent international sporting event in which athletes from all over the world participate in various competitions. These are held every four years where more than 200 teams compete against each other and represents sovereign states and territories.

Its creation took place under the guidance of Baron de Coubertin. It was first hoisted at the 1914 Pan-Egyptian Games in Alexandria, Egypt. It consists of five rings which are interlaced together. The rings are present in blue, yellow, black, green and red colour on a white background which are common to almost all flags around the world.
What is the motto of Olympics?
The motto for Olympic games was suggested by Pierre de Coubertin and was introduced in 1924 at the Olympic Games in Paris. The traditional motto was “Citius, Altius, Fortiu” in Latin and when translated to English it meant “Swifter, Higher, Stronger”. However, in 2021, the International Olympic Committee (IOC), sanctioned the addition of the word “together” thus making the motto Citius, Altius, Fortius – Communiter i.e., Swifter, Higher, Stronger-Together.
When India first participated in olympics?
India participated at 1900 Olympic Games for the very first time with an only athlete Norman Pritchard who won two silver medals in athletics. Even under British rule, India used to participate separately from British Olympic Team. Further a team was sent to 1920 summer Olympic games for the very first time.
