Hello our dear readers, presently we are here to talk about IPL. IPL has become one of the most popular and lucrative cricket tournaments all over the world. So lets know deeply about it.

IPL, fully known as Indian Premier League, is a cricket league of men’s T20 franchise. It was founded by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2007. And the current chairman of IPL is Arun Singh Dhumal (2023). IPL is the most attended cricket league and has fans all over the world. It is annually contested all over India between March and May. In this tournament 10 teams play against each other based on seven Indian cities and three Indian states. In 2010, it became the first sporting event in the world to be broadcasted live on YouTube, while in 2014 it was ranked 6 th by average attendance among all sports leagues. It has a format of 20 overs, that’s why it is known as T20 league tournament. It has brand value of $10.9 billion, as per the December 2022 reports of consulting firm D & P Advisory.

<h2>Foundation and History</h2>

On 13 September 2007, when India won the 2007 T20 World Cup, BCCI announced T20 competition known as Indian Premier League. The first season started in April 2008 with a grand inaugural ceremony held in New Delhi. Lalit Modi being the vice president of BCCI explained the details of the tournament and also revealed that IPL would be run by a seven-man governing council composed of former India players and BCCI officials. Further, an auction was held on 24 January 2008 in order to decide the owners of the team participating in the league. Towards the end of the auction bidders were announced as well as the teams which were going to represent different cities and states of the country. Some of the cities are: Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Mohali, and Mumbai. For the inaugural season, each team had a salary extent of US$5 million (Rs. 20 crores approx.) where world renowned Indian players like Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, Yuvraj Singh and Virender Sehwag were classified as icon players.
