Match the Following or Match the Column is something that students are used to since pre-school. The Match the Following topic in the English section is based on conceptual Grammar. Students have to recall the grammar rules and join the correct pairs. In many competitive exams Match the Following is seen even in subjective sections. Once the candidate figures out the concept, ‘match the following’ is easy to solve.

The trick is to connect sentences with the same context and try to find some grammatical errors in it. Chances are, the sentences which make sense have been matched up leaving you the ones that you could not match and that’s a small pot to choose from now.

This topic is asked mostly in Banking and Insurance exams. Given below are some memory based questions from bank examinations for you to practice.

Direction (1 to 10): In the following questions, two columns are given containing three sentences/phrases each. In the first column sentences/phrases are A, B, and C, and in the second column sentences/phrases are D, E and F. A sentence/ phrase from the first column may or may not connect with another sentence/phrase from the second column to make a grammatically and contextually correct sentence. Each question has five options, four of which display the sequence(s) in which the sentences/phrases can be joined to form a grammatically and contextually correct sentence. If none of the options given forms a correct sentence after combination, mark option 5, i.e. “None of these” your answer.
