Research was recently conducted in Tanzania’s Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA) offering insights into reasons behind the Human-Cape Buffalo Conflict. One of the main reasons behind the conflict came out to be the Resources Competition. The African or Cape Buffalo scientifically named as Syncerus Caffer are strictly herbivores animals that feed on grasses, leaves and other plants. Its IUCN Conservation Status is Near Threatened.

The 25th edition of Nagaland's iconic cultural and tourism fair namely the Hornbill Festival is being held in the Naga Heritage Village, Kisama. It is an annual festival that was organised for the first time in 2000 and it is also known as Festivals of Festivals. The festival is aimed at promoting inter-tribal interaction and preserving Nagaland's heritage. The festival is named after Hornbill Bird. The theme of 2024 is “Cultural Connect”.

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and International Cable Protection Committee (ICPC) has jointly launched the International Advisory Body for Submarine Cable Resilience. It is aimed to address challenges and ensure continued resilience of Submarine critical infrastructure. The Advisory body will meet bi-annually and it will comprise 40 members from around the globe.

The 2030 Global Strategy for Resilient Drylands (GSRD) was recently launched by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) in collaboration with International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) and International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT). The initiative provides a roadmap to conserve Biodiversity, build resilient livelihoods and enhance food security. The initiative was launched at 16th COP to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification in Riyadh.

The Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Shri Pralhad Joshi launched ‘Anna Chakra’, the Public Distribution System Supply chain optimisation tool and SCAN portal. Anna Chakra is a Public Distribution System Supply Chain Optimisation tool while SCAN stands for Subsidy Claim Application for NFSA. The Anna Chakra is spearheaded by the Department of Food Public Distribution and it is developed in collaboration with the World Food Programme and Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer, IIT Delhi.

The Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Center (IN-SPACe) was officially recognised as an Awarding Body by the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET). The agreement signed is aimed at straightening the vocational education and training landscape in the space sector. NCVET is a regulatory body established by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship in 2018. It is aimed at ensuring quality in the technical and vocational education and training (TVET).

The 1020 MW Punatsangchhu-II Hydropower Project nears completion in the Wangdue Phodrang district of Bhutan. The project is developed by the Punatsangchhu-II Hydropower Project Authority under an intergovernmental agreement between the Government of India and the Royal Government of Bhutan. It is a 1 GW run of the river hydroelectric power generating facility and is funded by the Government of India with 30% grant and 70% loan.

The Bharatiya Vayuyan Vidheyak 2024 was recently passed by the Lok Sabha after clearance by the Rajya Sabha in August 2024. The new bill replaces the outdated Aircraft Act, 1934 with the aim to overhaul India's Aviation laws. The new legislation promotes ease of doing business in the aviation sector. One of the characteristic features of the bill is that it established three authorities namely DGCA for regulatory functions, Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) for security oversight and Aircraft Accidents Investigation Bureau (AAIB).

The World Drought Atlas launched by UNCCD in collaboration with the European Commission Joint Research Centre recently stated that 75 percent of the population will be affected by drought by 2050. The Atlas explains drought risks linked to human activities and features 21 case studies from around the world thereby stating that no country is immune to drought.

India secured a total of six medals including one gold, three silvers and two bronze at the World Pickleball Championship in Hong Kong. The duo of Vanshik Kapadia and Vrushali Thakare clinched the gold medal in the 19+ Open mixed doubles category.
