<p>According to the World Bank's Gas Flaring Tracker Report, gas flaring, i.e., burning natural gas during oil extraction, reached its highest level since 2019 in 2023. This wasteful practice, driven by economic constraints and lack of regulation, releases harmful greenhouse gases and air pollutants. Gas flaring can be mitigated by re-injecting the excess gas back into the ground or using it as a resource for electricity production.</p>

<p>Recently, Chad became the 51st country to eliminate the Gambiense form of Human African Trypanosomiasis (HAT). Commonly known as sleeping sickness, it is a parasitic disease transmitted by tsetse flies in sub-Saharan Africa. There are two forms: Trypanosoma brucei gambiense and Trypanosoma brucei rhodesiense. Symptoms include fever, headaches, and joint pain, and early treatment is crucial as the disease can be fatal if untreated.</p>
