<h2>President of India to launch the sixth Project 17A Frigate Vindhyagiri</h2>

The Frigate is to be launched at Garden Reach shipbuilders and Engineers limited, Kolkata. Project 17A ships have been designed in-house by the Indian Navy&#39;s Warship Design Bureau.

Key Points:

A) Vindhyagiri, named after a mountain range in Karnataka is the sixth ship of project 17A Frigates.

B) It is a technologically advanced frigate with improved stealth features and advanced weapons.

C) It stands as a symbol of India&#39;s determination to embrace its rich Naval heritage while propelling itself towards indigenous defence capabilities.

D) 75% of the orders for equipment and systems of Project 17A ships are from indigenous firms including MSMEs.

E) The Project&#39;s first five ships have been launched between 2019-2022.

About INS Vindhyagiri:

A) Sixth and last of the Nilgiri Class frigates.

B) Completed 31 years of service from 1981 to 2012.

C) Decommissioned in 2011 after getting damaged in an accident with a merchant vessel.

WHO director Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus will inaugurate the event that will see participation of scientists, practitioners of traditional medicine, health workers and members of CSOs.The summit is to take place in Gandhinagar, Gujarat from 17th-18th August.

A) Summit will take into account the vast experience and expertise of the country and serve as a platform for experts and practitioners.

B) The event will be inaugurated in the presence of Minister of Health Shri Mansukh Mandaviya and Minister of Ayush Shri Sarananda Sonowal.

C) Exhibition of Traditional medicines from across the globe and Ministry of Ayush will be another milestone achieved at the event.

D) It will showcase interconnectedness of Traditional Medicines with the natural environment in the form of Kalpavriksha.

<h2>Madras High Court ordered the Central Government to relocate all residents of Village lying within Mudumalai Tiger Reserve</h2>

Madras High Court directed the Central Government to release funds to relocate 495 residents of Thengumarahada Village in Tamil Nadu. The village falls under the protected area of the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve.The bench comprising of Justices N Satish Kumar and D Bharatha Chakravarthy asked the Government to perform Primordial Statutory Duty to protect all species.

A) Court directed CAMPA to release funds to NTCA for relocating the residents.

B) SC mentioned the Right to Life guaranteed by Article 21 of Constitution applies to all species .

C) The relocation will cost over 70 Crore rupees.

<h2>Varying Trends in Elephant Population revealed in the recently released Elephant Population Estimates</h2>

The Elephant Population estimates were jointly conducted by the states of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. While Karnataka and Tamil Nadu witnessed slight increase, Kerala experienced a significant decline. Overall Elephant count for all three states combined in 2023 was 13,662 down from 17,836 in 2017.

A) Elephant deaths were largely among young individuals due to diseases like Elephant Endotheliotropic Herpesvirus.

B) Kerala employed block count and dung count methods as these methods aim for more accurate estimates compared to previous techniques.

C) Elephants are also dealing with scarcity of food due to invasive species like Lantana Camara.

D) Human-Elephant conflicts are also escalating .

E) Artificial Intelligence and Rapid response teams are being employed to address Human-Elephant conflicts.

Engineers from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology develop a humanoid robot that can fly aircraft without needing to modify the cockpit.The robot can control its arms and fingers to dexterously operate the flight instruments using high precision.

<h2>Scientists record a new species of salamander Tylototriton Zaimeng</h2>

Team of Indian and Russian scientists discover a new species of Salamander in the mountain lakes of Manipur. The newfound species was earlier mistaken for its close relatives T.Himalayanus and T.Verrucosus. The species can be classified as a cryptic species.

A) The new species has been named after Zaimeng, a mountain.

B) Scientists found several samples of the new species  from three locations with mountain lakes and swamps.

C) The Tylototriton Zaimeng had distinct characteristics like massive and wide head,rounded snout, bony ridges, short limbs etc.

D) Habitat of Tylototriton Zaimeng is confined to the Khongthang mountain range in Manipur.

E) Scientists have advocated the inclusion of the new species in the IUCN list as Vulnerable Species.

The decision of non participation of Transgenders was taken by Lausanne, Switzerland based federation FIDE drawing criticism from advocacy groups and supporters of transgenders rights.
