<p>Wildlife experts have reconfirmed the presence of the rare Asiatic golden cat in Assam's Manas National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The International Union for Conservation of Nature lists this medium-sized felid (Catopuma temminckii) as 'Near Threatened' in its Red List. The cat, protected under India's Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, inhabits diverse ecosystems, from dry deciduous forests to sub-alpine regions, at elevations up to 3,738 metres.</p>
