The sixth round of India’s Remittances Survey reveals that remittances have more than doubled from 55.6 billion dollars in 2010-11 to 118.7 billion dollars in 2023-24. Factors driving this change include stronger job markets in advanced economies, declining opportunities in Gulf countries, increased education-driven migration, and a preference for high-paying skilled jobs in the U.S., U.K., Canada, and Australia.</p>

The Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) recommended these measures, with duties ranging from 89 dollars to 1,732 dollars per tonne. India’s trade deficit with China reached 85 billion dollars in 2023-24. The move ensures fair trade under WTO norms and safeguards local manufacturers from unfair pricing competition.</p>

Small enterprises now have an investment cap of Rs 25 crore and a turnover limit of Rs 100 crore. Medium enterprises can invest up to Rs 125 crore, with a turnover limit of Rs 500 crore. This revision aligns with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s budget announcement to boost MSME growth.</p>

<p>Justice Harish Tandon of Calcutta High Court has been appointed as the Chief Justice of Orissa High Court, filling the vacancy left by Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh’s retirement on January 19, 2025. The Supreme Court collegium recommended his appointment on March 6, and the President approved it under Article 217(1) of the Constitution. Justice Tandon, a law graduate from Calcutta University (1983), practiced civil law before becoming a Calcutta High Court judge in 2010. Justice Arindam Sinha had been officiating as Acting Chief Justice.</p>
